Hearing impaired have their fill in first ever cricket match

JAMMU, Feb 9: In the first ever cricket match between the hearing impaired and the physically fit cricketers in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, the Roshni Cricket Academy (RCA) team today defeated Jammu and Kashmir Association of the Deaf and Dumb cricket team by seven wickets in a exhibition cricket match at GG M Science College ground today.
The match was organized by Roshni Cricket Academy and sponsored by the Himalayan Trading Cooperative Marketing Ltd Jammu. The main objective of the exhibition match was to encourage the handicapped players and to impart among them the feeling that they too are important part of the society.
Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, the Jammu and Kashmir Association of the Deaf and Dumb team started its inning carefully and but the whole team was bowled out in 17.5 overs after scoring 92 runs in a 20 overs match while chasing the meagre target, the RCA team won the match by seven wickets with 7.1 overs spare.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr G N Qasba, Registrar Co-operative, who was the chief guest appreciated the organizers for organizing such kind of match. Such activities would definitely encourage these physically challenged people and they would feel that they are also the important part of this society, said Qasba. He assured that the academy would organize such match in future to uplift the morale of these physically challenged players. He also distributed prizes among the players. Professor Vijay Kotwal, Principal GGM Science College Jammu was the guest of honour on the occasion.
Talking to Kashmir Times, the president of the Deaf and Dumb Association team Vijay Kumar Gupta told that the main objective of the match was to impart the feeling of "self-dependant among the physically challenged players. It would encourage them playing more cricket which would further uplift their morale, said Gupta.
While the Managing Director Roshni Cricket Academy and organizer of the match Rajinder Arora expressed his happiness for organizing such kind of match and said the main objective of the match to know how these players would play with normal players. He further disclosed that the academy has planned to organize a cricket match between Jammu Deaf and Dumb players and Kashmir Deaf and Dumb players very soon.
